Please encourage your child to carry a poem in his/her pocket. 

They can find a poem or write a poem.

Tips:

Find a short poem.

Read a few and let your child choose the poem he/she likes best.

Help your child practice reading the poem. 

Talk about...

            Are there any words you can't pronounce?

            Who is speaking in the poem?  How does that person feel? How can you show that with your voice?

            Are there parts of the poem that should be read loudly?  softly?  slowly?  quickly?

            Read the punctuation--how does an exclamation mark sound?  How does a question mark sound?

Aloha, Staff and Parents of Hale Kula Elementary School,

After a meeting with the Hale Kula Parent Teacher Organization Board yesterday, it was agreed that there are irreconcilable differences, and a motion was made and approved by the Board members present to dissolve the PTO effective June 30, 2015.

We are requesting that you include your name and your child’s name/room number so we can verify that you are a parent or staff member at Hale Kula. If we have strong opposition to this decision to dissolve the Hale Kula PTO, we will regroup to discuss next steps.

We appreciate all of the support from the PTO this past year, and we know that some of the school activities would not have been possible without their volunteer assistance as well as their fundraising projects. This is a difficult decision but one that will hopefully allow for healing.

As the school year winds down {28 more school days as of April 23}, we would greatly appreciate have all library books returned and all lunch accounts balanced.  We can accept checks until May 11th... after that it will be cash only.  All accounts must have the exact amount to cover meals from May 22 through June 3 {last day for students} as we are not permitted to allow overdrafts or give loans over those last few days.  Please keep track of your child's lunch account.  We have a day to day breakdown on the office front counter to help calculate how much will be needed ... breakfast is $1. or $0.30 for reduced, lunch is $2.25 or $0.40 for reduced, extra milk is $0.60 and, if you let us know, we can put a flag in the computer that says no second milk purchases allowed.  Unfortunately, we have had to instigate a policy that students with outstanding debts (usually library books & lunch overdrafts) will not be permitted to participate in the PTO's Water Play days May 28 & 29.... we don't like to punish the children AND it does seem to inspire parents to bring the money owing :-)  Thank you for your cooperation. This keiki friendly event features boogie boarding, surfing, canoeing, sailing, swimming and beach activities with the help of the North Shore Lifeguard Association.                       Haleiwa Store Lots has a grand opening of its new community and retail development at 66-111 Kamehameha Hwy from 10am – 2pm. Activities, tours, prizes and entertainment. Call 391-7441

There are still unfilled positions for next year which will be discussed at the next PTO meeting. They are 1st VP, Membership, Boxtops, Communication. If you are interested in 1 of these positions you are encouraged to attend the PTO meeting this Wednesday at 11am at Kalakaua Community Center.

April is the month of the Military Child. This is a time to honor and celebrate military connected children and youth. This is a visible way to show support and recognize military kids for their strength, sacrifices and continued resilience.

Vote on Friday April 10 before school OR after school at Friday store in P14 OR at PTO family fun, dinner and movie night in the cafeteria starting at 6pm.
