Announcements - October 30

Families had a great time at tonight's BYOP event!  Thank you to Parent Coordinator Ellen Petry for the idea and for coordinating the volunteers!

On Monday, October 28, Garrison Commander Whitney and SM Regalbuti attended our School Community Council meeting to address concerns I brought up at the Army School Planning Committee meeting earlier this month.  Our primary issue was safety, and we were told to call the MP office if we have concerns, specifically the following:

  • Cars are not obeying traffic signs, including disregarding the JPOs who are on duty in the mornings and afternoons There are several near-misses each week because drivers or pedestrians are not being mutually respectful of our student JPOs.
  • Cars are parked illegally on the sidewalk in front of the school parking lot where there are No Parking signs along the sidewalk.
  • Children under the age of 10 walking to and from school without adult supervision.
Please do  not put us in the situation of having to call MPs because our parents are not following base or school rules.  We ask that you respect the rules which are intended to keep our students safe.

Thank you,
Jan Iwase
Principal

The Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) Military Mentoring Program supports
children ages 9-17 of active-duty military personnel of all branches and
components including National Guard and Reserve. Youth referred to the
program do not need to be from a single parent home like the traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters Program. Studies show that 84% of children involved in the program increase self-confidence and 57% increase in overall academic performance. For more information and to make a youth or adult volunteer referral, please contact Jeff Mullis at jmullis@bbbshawaii.org or 808-695-4554.

Nominations for Volunteer and Staff for the First Quater

Please consider nominating someone for the Hooray for Volunteers or Hooray for our Staff Quarter 1 award.  Surely, there are more volunteers or staff who make Hale Kula a better place.

Go to our school website - www.halekula.k12.hi.us and click on the link on the home page.  Click on the pencil icon and write your comments. They need to be approved before publishing, and that's it!  Your nominee has a chance to win a $50 California Pizza Kitchen gift card!  We'll be doing the random drawing on Wednesday afternoon to give everyone an opportunity to nominate someone.

So far, the following have been nominated:
Volunteers - Ana Murray, Khristine Aguilar, Jennifer Calhoun, and Jeri Duncan.  That's it!  We certainly have more volunteers who have helped around the school!
Staff - Kanani Chang-Viloria and the rest of the custodial staff, Megan Cummings, the counselors, Jerry Bevacqua, Ted Enoki, Mary Anne Souza, Debra Oliveros, Michelle Colte, and Ellen Petry.

Please consider nominating someone!
