Summer Items

Thank you for subscribing to Hale Kula Highlights all year long. We hope you have found it useful and its kept you informed. If you are moving this summer, we wish you the best of luck in your new school (it’s easy to unsubscribe from future Highlights emails)  If you are returning next year, have a happy healthy summer break and some dates about next year are listed below.

School office is open all summer long
If your child will be 5 years old by July 31st you can register them for the upcoming school year.  Come to the office to pickup registration forms

Achieve 3000
Achieve3000 is giving Hale Kula students free extended summer access to ensure they maintain their reading gains. Encourage your students to complete lessons over the summer with our annual 40-Activity Challenge, chance to win one of six valuable prizes of an iPad mini The contest starts the day after school ends and continues through the summer break.

Public Library
Hawai’i State Public Library System has a Summer Reading Program 2016.  Register beginning May 31 at your public library. This years theme is fitness and there are many free programs and activities to strengthen the body and mind of children, teens and adults.

Community Events

May 27 – June 26 50th State Fair at Aloha Stadium. Fridays from 6pm – midnight. Saturdays from 4pm – midnight. Sundays from noon to midnight. Admission is free. Enjoy E.K. Fernandez’s annual carnival with rides, games, food and entertainment. Ekfernandezshows.com

May 28      Idea’s Music and Books at 670 Auahi Street, Honolulu has sidewalk sale from 10am – 3pm. They buy and sell new and used – vinyl records, CD’s, cassettes, Blu-Rays, DVD’s, Books. Special prices all day long  545-5002

May 29      SUP (stand up paddling) Race from Waimea Bay to Surf N Sea in Haleiwa starts at 9:45 Entry fee is $40. Call 637-9887

May 30      Schofield Barracks Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony at the Post Cemetery at 10 am. U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii honors Army veterans and members of its sister services who served and died in defense of our country. 656-3160

May 30      Mayor’s Memorial Day Ceremony at Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific 8:30am. The 65th annual ceremony honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation 768-3002

June 3, July 8, Aug. 12 & Sept. 9      Computer Class at Wahiawa Library. Offers introductory computer class at 10am for ages 12 and older. Sign up at 622-6345

June 4       World Oceans Day celebrated at Ocean Fest hosted by Turtle Bay from 11am – 4pm. Everything from shark conservation to ocean safety, games, raffle prizes, food, art, live entertainment, auctions and much more. The event is free, but some activities require on site registration. June 8       Chess Tourney at Mililani Library sponsored by Mililani High Chess Club from 3pm – 6pm. Sign up by May 28 at 627-7470

Saturdays and Sundays Art at the Zoo fence from 9am – 4pm. Enjoy art along the outside fence of the Honolulu Zoo and meet the artists. Located on Monsarrat Ave. Free street parking and across street in lot at Kapiolani Park
